For my First front cover attempt of a school magazine i think that it could be a suitable magazine to be sold and given to students in my age group, which is between the ages of 16 and 18. I feel that the pictures i chose to put onto the front cover ares suitable for the magazine because it shows sixth form students in front of the school sign and there are a few pictures on the school sign on its own. I edited the pictures in different ways to make it more appealing and to have brighter colours on the front. There are four pictures on the front cover, one larger one in the middle and three smaller ones around the outside. They have all be edited in a different way and i changed the transparency of the three pictures around the outside to make the one in the middle stand out even more. 
I used different sizes and colours for the text to make them stand out against the black background colour. Some of the words in the text are different like example the word 'uni' is written in the same colour writing but written in italics to make it stand out an grab the readers eye. The title of the magazine is written in white and the font style is Comic Sans, this is because it is easy to read and appeals to a lot of young people. The magazine uses the schools colours such as having black as the background and having red text around the pictures to make it more appealing to the people that go to the school and so that people know that it is a magazine for the school.

The colours used my be the school colours but i feel that it makes the magazine appeal more to boy rather than girls because i have used dark colours Also i have used pictures on males on the front cover which makes it a more masculine magazine rather than a unisex magazine. So to make it appeal to both male and female i should have used a range of different colours to show different genders and included pictures on females on the front. I used different layers to build up my magazine front cover and i learned how to do this on Photoshop and i also now know how to edit pictures on Photoshop which is what a real media product would include. My magazine is like a real media product as it includes all the aspects that a real magazine would include, such as a large title, picture/pictures and text on the front cover. From doing the construction process i have learnt how to use Photoshop and how to make a magazine appeal  to different genders an different age groups.I used Photoshop to construct my Magazine front cover then i published it into word so i could capture the construction process at home.

Overall my contents page had many flaws for example the colours ad he type of text used for it. I will consider these whilst doing my music magazine product later on in the course. The contents page fits in well with my front cover, as i use the same colours and i used the same font style so it will appeal to my age group, which is my target audience. Whilst doing the construction process on my contents page i learnt how to crop pictures and add text on to the background of the bottom layer.

From doing this project i feel that i need to get more confident on using Photoshop and learn more complex techniques to use on my music magazine.

This contents page includes simple techniques and i could compare it to a real media product  as i included pages numbers and a picture on the contents page.I did this by adding different layers for a picture and the title. overall i fee that the contents page could of been constructed in a better way, for example the page numbers could of been placed differently and the size of the text could of been different, as the text size varies on the page. Like m front cover page i have learnt a lot about using Photoshop and using techniques i could use in my music magazine project further on.

Questionnair analysis

My data suggests that the majority of the students that did my survey are at the age of 16 and all the students that did my survey are the age or 16 or above. This information tells me that it will be mainly older students that will be reading my magazine therefore i will make my magazine more suitable for that age group.

My data suggests the majority of the people that took my survey least like competitions in a magazine and the least about of people least like the pictures in a magazine. This information tells me that i should not add competitions into my magazine and i should be careful of what articles and pictures i use in my magazine. There for i will make competitions suitable for my age group and use suitable articles and pictures.

My data shows that the things people like most about a magazine are the articles that are included in the magazine. However people like the pictures in the magazine as well. This information tells me that i should chose appropriate articles in my magazine. Therefor i will pick appropriate articles and pictures to use in my magazine to appeal to my target audience and things that my age group would be interested in.

My data shows that the majority of the people that did my survey were male students. This information tells me that more male students read magazines than female students and therefor i will make my magazine appropriate for all genders and include aspects of male and female features in it.

My data shows that the majority of the people that did my survey would not read a magazine that had a picture of school students on the front. This information tells me that i shouldn't include a lot of pictures on students in my magazine. Therefor i shall only have a few pictures if that not any pictures on school students on the front cover of my magazine. 

My data shows me that the people that took my survey would rather not read a magazine that had school updates in it. This information tells me that i should include some school updates. Therefore i will not make the magazine all about school and include other things that my age group would be interested in. 

My data shows me that people would not spend £6-8 on a magazine and would pay cheapest amount for a magazine. This information tells me that i should consider the price of my magazine and not make it too pricy. Therefor i will make my magazine between the price of £1-5 as that is what people my age would pay for a magazine and what they can afford the most.

This data tells me that the people that took my survey are attracted to the pictures on and in a magazine rather than the text and colour. That information tells me that i should use more pictures than text on my front cover and in my magazine be careful with the text and colour i use. Therefore i will make my magazine have pictures that appeal to my age group, as well as things people would want to read.

This data shows me that they majority of people that took my survey would be attracted to a magazine that had bright and cheerful colours on rather than dark and dull. That information tells me that i should be careful with the colours i use on the front cover of my magazine, therefor i will use colours will attract our age group, which appears to me bright and cheerful colours.

Contents page analysis

This contents page is bright pink, so it is for a girls magazine. The white writing against the pink background makes it clear and easy to read, as well as the bold white title at the top.
The things that will be in the magazine are clearly page numbered which is better, as it mean you can find things quickly.

The pictures on the contents page relate to what will be in the magazine such as the picture of the eye with make-up on is next to the text that says 'make-up tips' and the picture at the bottom is off page is off the student of the month and has a picture of the student of the month.

This is a typical girlie contents page for a very girlie magazine, from the dark pink background and things that include make-up and pictures of school girls.

Contents Analysis

The colour for the page is simple and fades from white to a dark Grey.  It shows clearly it is a contents magazine as it has the title ' in today's issue' in a bubble font at the top of the page. and it has two sub-titles to shows what will be in the magazine. 

The are pictures on the left hand side of the magazine with have page numbers next to them to shows which pages that the 'featured' things will be on and what pages that the 'regulars' will be on, such as ' band news'. This magazine clearly published often that is why it has the 'regulars' sub- title. 

The page number are written in a bubble, black font to show clearly what pages things are on, however it doesnt say which things are on specifically each page. The red text for the contents page isnt very clear to read and the sub-titles is written  in red which is the same colour as the other text, so it isn't very clear to read against the back ground and doesn't stand out from the other text.

School magazine analysis

This magazine is aimed at secondary school students as the picture on the front it the school building and the colours are more calm and simple, rather than bright and over the top. The title is all typed in lower case which shows that it is aimed at teens as is care free.

There are different fonts and styles of text on the front of the magazine to make it stand out on the dark background. The different texts are about the different events and things that are going on around the school, the students can know what is going around of school.

The picture is of two school students looking at each other with a school building in the background. There seems to be chemistry between the boy and girl which could show relationships within the school.

This magazine is aimed at primary school children. The colours are very bright and colourful which attract small children from the ages between 4-10.
The magazine has the school logo printed in the top right hand corner to show that it the magazine is for that school.

The pictures are of school students and the different schools activities. The date is printed clearly on the side and the name of the school is printed at the bottom to show what school it is. The pictures are placed all over the place and they page is very busy, it is quite difficult to read.

This is a typical school magazine for primary school students, as it is bright colours and smiling school children in uniform. There are different ages of students on the magazine to show it is aimed at all primary school children and not just the older or younger ones.

Colour Testing

 Colout blue
The colour blue is seen as a masculine colour and is normally associated with males. However this clolour represents purity  and youth, as it is quite a simple and calm colour to use. Blue would fit into my magazine because it is aimed at a young adults and older students. it is a very attractive colour and can be used to grab the readers attention. The type of magazine that this colour would be used for is a men fashion magazine or and home magazine because blue is a very popular colour for home decor.

Colour Red

This colour is a very attractive colour and is easy noticed on a magazine cover. It represents hate or love and many other things. This colour would be aimed at an older age group and would be used in a information or gossip magazine such as 'OK', which the letters are red. This colour would fit in with my magazine image because it is bright and stands out from the rest of the colours, and it would be appropriate for my magazine as it is seen as a quite modern colour and my generation live for modern things and it represents my school colours.

Colour Orange

This colour is simple but can make people feel different things. For example to some people they might think of autumn and orange leaves on the group, but for others it might make them think of sweet things and christmas, because people tend to have oranges around christmas time. The colour would be used for a seasonal magazine because it is a simple colour and isn't too bright on the page. This colour would not be suitable for my magazine because i feel it is too much of an old fashioned colour, however it would be suitable for a background colour. 

Colour Green

This colour is very bright and stands out among other colours.This colour represents nature and all things natrual and would be used for a home and gardening magazine. As the colour is simplistic and naturalistic and people would be attracted to it on the front of a gardening magazine. This colour would be not suitable for my magazine because i feel it is too bright for my magazine and would not be appropriate for my target audience.  

Colour Pink

This colour is a feminine colour and is associated with female items, such as female clothes. However this colour could also represent love and compassion. This colour would be used for a females fashion magazine, as it is a bright colour and women are always attracted to the colour pink. This colour would be suitable for the female part of my magazine because boys would not get anything that had pink on it. It would be suitable to a background colour to to highlight a key word.

Colour white
This colour signifies purity and is seen as the absence of colour.  It represents pureness and cleanliness. This colour is a very modern and simple colour and stands out well on a darker background. White would be on a magazine about sport or cars because a lot of sportsmen wear white and the latest cars look better in white which attracts a lot of modern day adults. This colour would be suitable for me magazine because it will stand out well against a darker colour and fits in my my generation and target audience. 

Font Testing

Lucida Handwriting. This font is in the style of old fashioned handwriting. It isn’t that easy to read, so it might be used to make certain words stand out within text. This font could also be used to write a statement or short sentences to make it look like someone has written it on the page, it is a good handwriting effect. I would use this font in my magazine for effect.

Apple  Casual. This  font  is  easy  to  read  and  is  a  fun  font  to  use.  The  spaces  between  each  word  are  more  then  usual  to  make  it  easy  to  read.  The  type  of  magazine  that  this  font  would  be  used  for  is  a  children  magazine  because  it  is  a  simple  and  rounded,  which  makes  it  clean  to  read.

Comic Sans MS. This font is simple and easy to read, so it would be used for a gossip or music magazine, which has general information in it. The font would be used in a teenagers\younger people’s magazine. I would use this font in my magazine because it is very readable and is what you would see in a magazine aimed at my target audience, which is teenagers.

Herculanum. This font is all in block capitals so it makes it easy to read. However the font isn’t the easiest to read, as some of the letters are hard to work out.  I would not use this font in my magazine because it is unsuitable for my magazine.

Hobo STD. This font is bold and attractive and stands out. It is very easy to read and is quite simple. The font would be used for children’s magazine because it is rounded and a fun font to use. I would not use this font for my magazine because it would not be suitable for my magazine, although it could be used on the front cover to make text stand out.

Synchro LET. This font is in block capitals and it looks like the sort of font found in a video game. The words are easy to read and clean on the page. The type of magazine the font would be used for it a video game magazine advertising new games. I would not use this font in my magazine because I wouldn’t include anything that would be relevant in this font.

Trebuchet.This font is simple and easy to read. The type of magazine that this font would be used for it an information magazine for example a sports magazine. I would use this font in my magazine because it is simple readable and stands out. It is the type of font that would be seen in a teenagers magazine. 

Courier. This font is very spaced out and very simple. It looks like a typewriter font. It would be found in a magazine which has a article in it with long statements from older people.I would not use this font in my magazine because it looks like an old fashioned font and my magazine will be modern.
